*NOTE* - I do not own a sailfish phone so I'm only able to test this on the i486 emulator where I know it works. Currently, the ARM version may crash so consider it a beta until I confirm the ARM version is working and can remove this note.

Changelog:

Originally released for iPhone 3, the game has been updated and ported to Sailfish OS with permission from the original developer.

-8 - Completely changed the way I'm launching the app to try and fix issues with Sailjail. If it wasn't working for you before, please try again with -8.

well I tested latest -8 on my Jolla Phone and it still doesnt work wont even launch like before, here is log:
sailjail -p :
https://gist.githubusercontent.com/ahjolinna/df6621f2c430e01a4719456c0c6...
journalctl -fa :
https://gist.githubusercontent.com/ahjolinna/d15a170012dbb4ff690bc08ab20...

there has been some changes on 5.2 with sailjail

ahjolinna's picture

also tested on my Xperia 10 II which I upgraded to 5.2 (way early), and it does run like before with the blankscreen, so it does seem this is JP26 issue

ahjolinna's picture

well now it does launch on JP26 from terminal normally, but unlike with Xperia 10 II it wont even get the blank screen launch when trying to open normally.

maybe you need to do the same custom permissions thing as this game: https://openrepos.net/content/aegg/gagarina-space-jumper

I am unable to start it, I guess it's because I am one the mentionned ARM arch. Edit : just installed the update, it launch, I can hear a nice song, but screen is black.

windes's picture

Well, it's unstable, can fall in any time, but.. It's continue from last step, and is possible to play. If I added Sandboxing=Disabled and start game from terminal or if just start from icon - nevermind, falls equally, from time to time.

Played till 29 level (of 36) now. Not bad game. There are some bugs when game falls and you start from same place - action point is reduced by 1, also cost of move unit increases on 1-2.

windes's picture

Oh.. Played till last 36 level, where a main boss is ready. When he pulling his first attack - game fall down. Restart game - again falling after his attack. Please fix! ))

Wow, impressive that you got that far. Fun game right? Was one of my favorites back in the day which is why I wanted to port it.

Was that version -7 or -8?

I was under the impression folks weren't working without disabling sailjail so I was still focused on fixing that.

If you want to DM me to work through this bug feel free to.

windes's picture

Both, -7 and -8 - same falling, same error. Yea, game is cool)

Direct message to where? Do you have Telegram?

FixFlare's picture

I think you can just click my username then click the "contact" tab within this site?

I pushed -9 I'm confident that will fix your issue with the demon boss and his fireball move.
That's assuming you're able to launch it at all since I'm still trying to fix sailjail.

Please let me know if sailjail works on this version and if you're able to fight the demon.

windes's picture

Cool! On armv7hl it starts and even can play! But falls on tutorial on last step where 5 action points must be collected. Skipped tutorial. Started game. After 3 minutes it falls on error when i just tap next object:

Ingvix's picture

Trying it out of sailjail, it seems to crash during tutorial after you've been allowed to insert units freely to gain action points and you try to insert your first unit. It output Error : Oper.dis() called with null event name, before exiting.

FixFlare's picture

Try version -7 which will hopefully fix sailjail.

I haven't tested the tutorial on Sailfish but I did play all the way through the first level on the emulator with no issues.

You can actually skip the tutorial and see if that does any better but I want to get it working without any workarounds first before I consider any bugs like this.

ahjolinna's picture

-7 sadly didnt work

FixFlare's picture

at all, or would still function outside of sailjail?

If you can, see if you get any errors with this -  it would help

sailjail -p /usr/share/applications/harbour-com.fixflare.pdpuzzle.desktop /usr/bin/harbour-com.fixflare.pdpuzzle

and following journalctl from another terminal while trying to launch

 journalctl -fa

It works fine for me on the simulator but I'm hoping it'll throw an error or something that will tell us what the problem is for your real device.

If you want, feel free to use the direct message thing here.

ahjolinna's picture

sorry didnt notice your comment, had some personal stuff, I tried your latest version still same issues (blank screen with audio, but it seems the game does run as you can interact with the game ..you just cant see anything)

here is latest logs using your promts:

Appreciate it-

Took a break from this for a bit while I worked on some other apps. The good news is I learned a few things about sailjail during that process so I think I may have fixed it now. Completely changed the way I'm launching the app.

If you get a chance, try -8 and let me know if it works with sailjail now.

Matias's picture

Latest version works on my Xperia 10 iii! Only from the terminal though, staring it regularly results in a black screen with music. Seems to be a problem with SailJail, because adding Sandboxing=Disabled under [X-Sailjail] in the .desktop file works around it.

FixFlare's picture

Nice - thanks for the report.

Weird though, because it works on the simulator with the jail.

I'll see if I can figure out what is different about these android based devices that blocks it.

Update: Added -7 to attempt to fix sailjail.

windes's picture

Fix the version number please ) It's already 2.0.1, but not starting ever.

FixFlare's picture

I haven't changed the game code at all, just how I'm compiling it really.

Hoping to get a working stable version before I put on Jolla store and then I'll have to increment the version.

Just pushed -6, I think that has a decent chance of working this time. Had a bit of a eureka moment.

windes's picture

-5 is better, almost starts, even show a cover logo of game, and falls after.

Facing issues too, it doesn't start for me

amol's picture

Last release improved things a little for me. The game now starts and I hear the music, but the screen is black. Steps forward, thanks for your efforts!

Most coolest graphics ever on Sailfish! (If game will start). XA2, armv7hl - Segmentation fault (core dumped).

fingus's picture

Did not start on Jolla C2 (5.0.0.78)

FixFlare's picture

Unfortunately I do not actually own a Sailfish phone yet. I ordered one to arrive in September but this was entirely developed on the i386 emulator.

So with that said, I haven't been able to test on an actual ARM phone like yours.

If you're able to provide logs when you attempt to start I might be able to troubleshoot it from that though.

New version pushed give version -3 a try. Pretty confident it should work now.

I got this one my Xperia 10 II (using SailfishOS 5.1):

Thank you - that helped, fix incoming.

Ironically of all 3 architectures, I think it was only arm64 that was broken.
