This app is an alternative youtube client. You can watch videos and subscribe to channels. Subscriptions are offline.

If you scroll left on main screen you will have access to categories. You can set default category in settings

Subscriptions import and liking/disliking video is only available if you add api key but API KEY IS NOT REQUIRED if it's not clear enough.

Subscriptions can be imported. Import is in pulldown menu on subscriptions page.

Microtube is using https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube scope, make sure you have youtube data api as well as this scope enabled.

After you enable the scope, if you are already logged in, you have to relog!

To cast to jupii, jupii needs to be running first and connected to device.

Microtube uses SponsorBlock plugin

Hi sir
Only two things I've detected:
- Small framerate (tested on 60fps video)
15-30 fps on the screen imo, tested on Xperia XA2
- Autoplay when you stopped video and swithed to another app after some time
Another things going well
Thank you for your great work!

if you do not want to login you don't have to do anything with youtube

DylanP's picture

Thanks for keeping this app updated but one question regarding the latest one, since the update everytime i click any URL in any app it always pops up asking to open in the Browser or Microtube, is this intended or some way i can change it?

Mister_Magister's picture

yes thats obviously intended, The feature was there but i removed it at some point so i restored it, its to launch youtube links in microtube

DylanP's picture

Thats fair enough but surely there is a way for it to ask with only youtube links and not every link i click ;) but i do appreciate the work you put into the app btw, so no disrespect meant

Mister_Magister's picture

Actually no… there isn't. I've made some patch in sailfishos like year or so ago but i'm not even sure it works xd

DylanP's picture

I looked into it more and i changed your MimeType line in microtube-url to x-url-handler/youtube.com and it works as intended and only shows the option to open microtube for youtube links

Mister_Magister's picture

that's… my patch in effect

DylanP's picture

Well atleast it works haha, will the change i made get reverted after updates to the app? Not a big deal but just so i know

Mister_Magister's picture

i'll add your change dw

Mking's picture

Can anyone please help me i installed it but the videos aren't playing I don't wanna sign in I just want to watch videos but videos aren't playing

arustg's picture

Hiall, on Xperia X (4.4.0
68) videos don't started :(

Bsingleto's picture

Origin Sponser block, Outro Sponser skipped, Unrelated Music speed section skipped in music videos - all these are options come through in the clutch. Other issues are likely because of my distance from my four + year old router. i'm so happy, i might not ever update SFOS again to not mess up this working version of Microtube. I'm having to manually update my over 1,000 plus subs but maybe its for the better. Currently at 77 subscriptions and it takes just over a minute to load so maybe its a good thing I'm only subbing to the 'important to me for now' channels. This is what i've been patiently waiting for. Thank you

Mister_Magister's picture

You're welcome. thanks for kind words

campeon's picture

Can anyone prepare, please, a procedure to follow in order to log in the user? It's not that easy, and some help would be welcome.... Thanks

daf0x's picture

This is a simple guide: https://www.membrane-soa.org/service-proxy-doc/4.8/oauth2-google.htm

You need to select 'desktop app' when creating the token, or your login will be blocked due something with a 'loopback flow'(??).

Khazarli's picture

Something about week of using. Reporting all issues I had and still have:

1. Microtube stopped working for no reason. I simply reinstalled nodejs18 and it started working as it did before. This one is for case if somebody else got same bug

2. Not every video loads from first attempt. Sometimes it needs to be pressed twice or more, sometimes even with app restart.

3. Can't select my region (Azerbaijan)

4. No "recomendations" tab as it was on stock youtube app and web version of it.

5. I still have an issue with slightly lagging videos, they run something about 24 fps, and it could be seen comparing web version with Microtube.

6. Also can't import my subscriptions, it's stuck on Importing 0/0. I used OAuth V2 API for desktop to login. App shows that I'm logged in (Logout from youtube button)

Mister_Magister's picture

2. happens it's not like the libs are perfect but at least they work and we have to deal with that because of youtube's bullshit

4. You cannot have recommendations without tracking, which i do not allow
any similar thing to it is just the popular vids
6. did you enable youtube data api?

daf0x's picture

4. Admittedly this is changing a bit recently with some of the 'popular vids' getting injected, but the recommendations are mostly pulled ftom subscriptions and recently watched videos. So it really is different from just the 'popular vids' and I find it to be useful.
While you are probably right that it requires some tracking, tracking is already happening anyway as you're logged in, so youtube can match every request to you anyway. By that logic you should remove the ability to login entirely.
Please (re)consider adding support for the recommendations feed, you can always put it behind an opt-in setting if you personally don't like it.
And thank you for your efforts :)

Khazarli's picture

Thanks again for support
6. Not sure... I have it on, and I see it got some requests in console.

Mister_Magister's picture

I've added some more detailed info about that in description, check it out

TMavica's picture

Cant import subscription, it show importing 0/0, maybe i miss some setting in google developer page?

Mister_Magister's picture

did you enable youtube data api scope

TMavica's picture

Yes, api v3v4?

Mister_Magister's picture

I've added some more detailed info about that in description, check it out

Khazarli's picture

Great application update! Works perfect since I last time downloaded it.
But it has some issues:

1. Every video somehow lags on my Xperia XA2 running Sailfish OS 4.3. Not same smooth as if it was through Browser or some android application as like NewPipe.
2. No history :c (brynz already said about it, but anyways)

ferlanero's picture

No lags here. Maybe connection issues?

Khazarli's picture

No, connection is perfect. It lags in meaning it doesn't go in 60 fps as usually, something around 24 I guess
