Hello! To import bookmarks in html: i exported a file from firefox on my pc, moved to a folder in the phone, now in webpirate i tried to import during the import menu - i can't open or it doesn't show a file called bookmarks.html -
Btw. in webpirate (the original one) is the same.
About 1 ore 2 years ago it was possible to import the .html file for bookmarks - is there maybe a change in the html file from firefox?

hello, no idea, never used it (on my PCs/Laptops I have one History/Bookmarks for about 13yrs :D ) anyway I will try to look at it, but I do not have much time nowadays..

Kudos for carrying on the work on Sailfish's quickest and best browser. Thank you so much!

I have finished chinese translation.Do you see that on Github?

Bobsikus's picture

I have got email notification, like i have said, transifex will be hopefully soon :) I also do not exactly know, how the words for translations are generated, I will hopefully get this to work with Dax

anyway you might help me with different thing, in the meantime I have started to work on editor ( https://openrepos.net/content/goalexander/editor ) and I would like to know which encodings are used in asia, korea, china, japan, etc. the most . I have found some on the wikies, but asian languages is lot different from europe and USA, so I don't know which exactly you guys are actually using :)

Historyscholar's picture

Nice, how to provide translation?I cannot find your github. It's 404 now.

Bobsikus's picture

hello, I do not plan to translate this test package, but I will need update for the "main" package some time later.. I will contact Dax how to proceed exactly.

In the meantime, I would love to have feedback from you guys, if there is something to repair or add or change, if ther won't be bigger changes I would then continue with the main package

Regarding Git, I forgot to enable repo as not private :) (I had to figure how to upload the data)

add speeddial just like Opera browser?

Bobsikus's picture

I do not use Opera, so at first sight I do not see the difference, but about:newtab (alias QuickGrid) seems to be the same is it not ?! Only thing seems to be missing is actual window for search, but I do not think it is neccessary, since you can use address bar directly for that too

@pstassen If I login on gmx.net the desktop view is shown even if the mobile view is setted; and I can't scroll down. Dwd.de always chrashes the browser. Adblocker is not enabled. I use Defender. Witch device are you using?

pstassen's picture

Hi, this browser is quicker and more reliable than the stock browser, and for what I can say, more "suitable" to Sailfish OS than WebCat. The webpages gmx.net and dwd.de load perfectly and quickly. Instead of using Adblock, I suggest editing the file /etc/hosts to redirect all trackers and ad domains to 0.0.0.0.

Thank you for reviving WebPirate, great job!

dirksche's picture

Thanks for your reply. I'm sure it's not your fault. Browser experience on Sailfish is very special. Thanks for your work

I like the grid page on start. Its intuitive an fast. But the browser can't, for example, handle https://gmx.net, uses the desktopbrowser view with http://dwd.de and fails to load https://company.pocketbook.de/de-de
This were my first 3 attemps of loading pages.
Second time I tried with gmx.net and dwd.de the app chrashed and the phone was frozen and I had to soft reset the phone. Please take this as a feedback. It would be great to have the web pirate back again

Bobsikus's picture

Hello, I have no idea what these pages are, unforunately the Browser is still tied to WebKit 3.0, I have noticed some crashes, which were obviously caused by ads on the page.. AdBlock is not fully working, but you can try to download at least some filters if it may help.. Also you can try to change User Agent to predefined Desktop Waterfox (like firefox), some pages seemed to work lot better with it
I tried to load:
gmx.net - took some time, but loaded, not sure how exactly it should look though

dwd.de - took hell of a time and browser web process crashed, probably webkit issue

pocketbook.de - page loaded quickly and without stutters, but the view is blocked by some banner on the page, so nothing is visible
All of these are tried on the User Agent I mentioned

Hopefully Jolla will update the Webkit already, version of used WebKit is hell of old and there is nothing I can do about that :(

BTW: all tried on Jolla 1 if that matters

olf's picture

FWIW, Jolla won't.

... but @llelectronics does: https://openrepos.net/content/llelectronicsdev/qtwebkit-5212-dev
For an installation / un-installation guide, see https://together.jolla.com/question/219668/how-to-revert-original-packag...

The classic WebPirate ran much better with his QtWebKit, so does WebCat.
Hence I expect that to be the case with WebPirate_test, too.

olf's picture

Yay, cool!

Will take a look at it this weekend.

@Bobsikus, thank you so much for reviving and enhancing my once favorite, native web-browser.
It is really great to see WebPirate working well on a recent SailfishOS release and WebPirate_test does not show any significant regression while providing a couple of improvements (in addition to running stable).

Hence IMO it absolutely makes sense to promote your WebPirate from "test" to "release" status and to consider publishing it at the Jolla Store (in addition to OpenRepos), in order to gain a larger user group (= more testers, more feedback).
Using WebPirate_test for a little while also reminded me of the many, small bugs WebPirate exhibits for long (especially at its GUI), most of them already filed at the original repository. Well, it is up to the users to cherry pick and refile still relevant issues at your new source code repository.
