A familiar name returns to Sailfish OS! Enjoy your conversations in a native app, with voice and video calls, more freedom, and features worth getting excited about!
To use WhatsUp, you need an existing WhatsApp account. Link WhatsUp as a companion device using the official WhatsApp app on your main phone.
And of course, enjoy the essentials: chats, groups, photos, videos, voice messages, reactions, pinned messages, text formatting and more!
* GIF setup: To search for and send GIFs from the built-in picker, add your own free, rate-limited API key from KLIPY or GIPHY in WhatsUp’s settings. Receiving GIFs ado not require a key.
WhatsUp is an independent, unofficial client and is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.

App seems nice but there are 2 things to mention:
1) WhatsUp does not appeare as "app" in lighthouse. There can only be found "whatsupd"eamon. By the way I have not found an option to disable background service in settings. Is there a way?
2) The cpu seems to be a bit high for a background service. (from my nonexpert point of view) In Lighthouse it seems to be 0% but if you use SysMetrics it permanentely changes from 1.5-4% and back even when the gui is not on.
But all in all a really usefull app! Thx.

Killer app, better than the official Android app in some ways! Proud to have helped test this while in pre-release phase.

The WhatsUp third-party source bundle is available on request. Email whatsup@htheb.com with the subject "WhatsUp source".

May i ask why you decided to give the source code only on request? Thanks for the app btw. I will test it when I'm home and have access to my device where whatsapp is registered as a main phone.

Thanks for making this app. Is it possible to know what are the components that need to be installed after the initial installation ?
Then is it possible to know how the the auto-update works ?

Thanks!
The RPM’s normal Sailfish dependencies are handled during installation. On first launch, WhatsUp checks whether six additional components for media and maps are present:
- ffmpeg-tools, gstreamer1.0-tools
- gstreamer1.0-libav
- qt5-qtdeclarative-import-location
- qt5-plugin-geoservices-osm
- qt5-qtdeclarative-qmlscene
It downloads only the missing ones from the configured Sailfish repositories.
"Automatic updates" currently means automatic checks when WhatsUp opens, not unattended installations. You can turn those checks off in Settings > Updates and check manually instead.
When you tap "Update now", WhatsUp downloads the RPM for your phone from my update server, checks its SHA-256 checksum and package details, then installs it through Sailfish’s package manager.

Would you mind sharing the source? There's crypto involved so I'd like to audit that. Thanks!

Thanks for asking. The full WhatsUp source isn’t public. I can provide the source for the protocol and cryptography components included in this release, including our whatsmeow changes. Email whatsup@htheb.com with the subject “WhatsUp source” and I’ll send the bundle.
That lets you inspect those components.
