YAST Client is a yet another SailfishOS Telegram client. Its goal isn't to be the future of SailfishOS Telegram clients, neither is to have the most features possible. The main point of it is to simple be a good client for using it daily on your phone today.

YAST doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it is based on Fernschreiber and continues its development, adding even more features to it, enhancing it even further and making it more complete, as well as seamless and natural to use.

For more updates on YAST, subscribe to the official Telegram channel. This, among other useful SailfishOS-related Telegram resources, such as the Fan Club group, can be opened at any time from the app's About page. See also YAST Client introduction on YouTube or directly in Telegram.

YAST sources are hosted on GitHub and Codeberg.

No AIs (LLMs) were used for creating this project.

Why fork Fernschreiber?

When the development of this project started, Fernschreiber hasn't received any updates for a long time. Forking the project seemed like the best choice. Despite Fernschreiber receiving an update recently, it still lags behing YAST, which is why I decided to finally make it public.

Changelog:

0.3

Communities, Improved Settings and Much More

Communities allow you to group multiple chats together. If a group or a bot belongs to a community, you can see the list of the remaining chats in it by going to the profile page (swipe to the left or click on the title bar on the group page) and choosing the "Community" bar below. Note that you will still need a desktop client to create a new community.

Notification settings received a major upgrade. They now have its own separate category. You can now also edit the settings for various chat types. Plus, several other advanced options were added to them.

Proxy settings also got updated. Proxies list can now be sorted by the ping. You can also search in it now. Pinning proxies to the top of the list and adding comments to them has also been made possible.

Other changes include:

  • Bot button colors
  • Show the Saved Messages chat as such
  • Moving attachments button to the left
  • Cover action for creating a new chat
  • Allow viewing topic history in landscape
  • Various tabs-related fixes
  • Pinned messages fixes
  • Report a proper app version to Telegram

0.2

This is the initial public YAST release. It contains many new features, such as:

  • Chat Folders
  • Calls
  • Profile Media Tabs
  • Pinned Messages 2.0
  • Topics ("Forum groups")

While the list of bigger features is not as big, there are many smaller enhancements added, for instance:

  • Archived chats
  • Improved search
  • Scrollable media player
  • Albums
  • Proxy support

The full list of changes compared to Fernschreiber is too long to be put here or anywhere else. However, more comprehensive list of changes is available on GitHub.

I see. If you could set it to use the system sounds that would be awesome.

Hello again :) this is now possible in update 0.3.0, go to Settings - Notifications and sounds and enable "Always use default notification sound".

I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug, but it overrides the notification sound I set in SFOS and uses the sound I set for my desktop Telegram app. Can this be changed somehow?

roundedrectangle's picture

This is a feature, notification sounds are synced across devices on Telegram. Unfortunately, this can only be changed by setting it back to default (for individual chats - directly in YAST by pressing and holding notifications switch in profile and choosing customize, for chat groups - unfortunately only through the desktop or any other app for now).

Nonetheless, I'll look into adding a setting for forcefully using the system sounds instead of the ones set in Telegram's global settings later.

How about allowing selecting and sending multiple files at once?

Thanks, this is planned
