Experimental Gecko ESR140 (Firefox 140) browser for Sailfish OS 5.1. Sailfish OS currently ships a browser based on Gecko ESR91 from 2021. This is a community port of the far newer ESR140 engine. ### Installs alongside the stock browser Every package in this stack carries a "-next" suffix and uses its own directories and profile. The system browser is not touched, not replaced and not modified in any way — both browsers appear in the app grid and can be used side by side. If you want to remove the port later, uninstalling the -next packages leaves the stock browser exactly as it was. ### Installation Enable this repository and install ONLY this package. All six dependencies (xulrunner-qt5-next, embedlite-components-qt5-next, qtmozembed-qt5-next and the three sailfish-components-webview-qt5-next packages) are pulled in automatically. Download is roughly 70 MB, installed size around 200 MB. Note: both entries in the app grid currently share the same icon. ### What works - Page rendering with WebRender, hardware accelerated - Touch: tap, scroll, flick, pinch zoom, double-tap zoom - Downloads with the native Sailfish transfer UI - Camera and microphone access (WebRTC / getUserMedia) with permission dialog - Google OAuth sign-in, including popups that close themselves - Landscape orientation - Text selection (drag slightly while long-pressing) ### Known issues - Occasional crash on first start; restarting usually succeeds - Long-press needs a slight drag to trigger text selection - Rear camera delivers frames but shows a still viewfinder (device HAL issue, not browser-related) - Some CSS assets fail to load on a few sites (CORS / HTTP-3, under investigation) This is alpha software. Tested on Sony Xperia 10 V (pdx235), SFOS 5.1.0.11, aarch64. Reports from other devices are very welcome — please include the device model and SFOS version. ### Sources Engine and EmbedLite layer: https://github.com/smatkovi/gecko-dev (branch fork-esr140) JS components: https://github.com/smatkovi/embedlite-components (branch fork-esr115) Release notes and direct RPM downloads: https://github.com/smatkovi/gecko-dev/releases/tag/esr140-alpha1 ### Support this work This port was built in my free time. This is quite interesting. Pages seem to render in desktop mode always - is the user agent weird, perhaps? Youtube loads ads unlike the stock browser, and video playback is choppy but more resolutions work than on the stock browser. I think its using a software decoder perhaps?
At any rate, for the most part it works on my 10IV community port. Nice work!

you're welcome. i found a bug where a cpu core constantly runs on 100%, so you should update the xulrunner dependency. it should offer itself in storeman updates as update, or you do it manually from the terminal.
