Fernschreiber is a Telegram client for Salifish OS

Fernschreiber (German for teleprinter, teletypewriter, teletype or TTY) connects you with the Telegram network. It's still in an early development phase, but it already supports many of the most popular features such as:

  • Chat list in order of last received message
  • Two-step authentication
  • Read standard text messages, pictures, videos. animated GIFs, animated and non-animated stickers, voice notes, locations, venues, polls and documents
  • Displays web page previews
  • Send text messages, stickers, reply to messages, attachments: images, videos, documents, polls, voice notes, locations (yes, more to come ;))
  • Edit messages
  • Delete messages
  • Search chats and messages
  • Display sent/read state of messages
  • Notifications
  • Contact support and device contacts synchronization

There is no daemon running and it's also unlikely that there will be one in the near future (we achieved Harbour compatibilitiy and that's good;)). So if you close the app, it is closed. For the notifications to work, you need to keep the app in the background (or as you say, run minimized).

If some have the problem, that all chats are mixed up and the pinned chats or chats with new messages are not on top just delete the db.sqlite file in ~/.local/share/harbour-fernschreiber/harbour-fernschreiber/tdlib :) (all messages will be synced again, encrypted chats are maybe lost)

Hello, on the Sony XA2 Plus the volume of voice note recordings is very low. Can we add a manual microphone volume option in the settings?

It's already on maximum - at least according to the settings in Qt Multimedia. I have that problem as well... Probably, files need to be normalized after recording, if anybody has tipps how to do that most efficiently, please let me know.

I see. In that case indeed volume normalization of the recording sounds like a better option. It seems that this microphone issue doesn't happen with phone calls. Is the phone using another mic for calls? Could that also be a solution?

Qt Multimedia doesn't give that much options here, there is a defaut device and a pulseaudio device. I haven't heard that much difference here - probably they are routed to the same microphone input. If somebody knows how regular calls are handled and how that can be leveraged please let me know.

Great new update!

Thank you for the work of all the developpers!

I wonder about something: did you check the app with ''light mode'' like jolla's 'Glacial' or 'Aerial'?

In my experience the text i wite (colored in the theme's color) is very hard to read with light modes... have a check on 'Glacial' for exemple...: i advise you to write a text to someone when using the 'glacial' light theme and you'll see what i mean...both the draft you are 'writing' and the message you 'sent' are hard to read: blue on blue...

Also a small thing that would be great would be to add ''mark as unread'' to ''mute chat and user info'' when long pressing on one chat in the main chats page...

What a great work! Many thx! I've totally remove depecher that crashing so much now to use only your apps!
Is those feature in your roadmap yet?

  • draft (Actually, when you start writting and go back, you loss all your writting :/ )
  • Abillity to share photo from gallery directly
  • Maybe run as service (but can leave without it)

Thank you for a really cool update!

Just wanted to signal a couple of things that could be improved maybe when time comes;).

I hope it isnt "annoying" for developpers to recieve such a "requests" comments...

-when you edit a message, it doesnt get "shown as edited" until you leave the chat and get back to it...

-it could be cool to include "X is writing" when the other person in the chat is writing....In depecher that's implemented both in the "all chats" page and inside each chat...

-Often when chatting with someone it takes a while Fernschreiber understand the message has been recieved (show "1" or "2" at bottom of chat for maybe 15 seconds after the message is already read...

Well i guess you are already aware of such small things!

All fine, bug reports and feature requests are always appreciated. However, please consider posting them on GitHub: https://github.com/Wunderfitz/harbour-fernschreiber/issues

The editing functionality should be fixed now with 0.5.1. The message read signal should work however. Sometimes you need to scroll a little bit so that it's recognized.

Not sure however about the X is writing functionality. Maybe as an option, as I don't really like it...

Wow, what a big release! The replied-to message view in the dark popup is very cool and useful! If only there was a search function (I know there is a feature request for it already :))

Hello! One question: Depecher has a very clever way of "auto-cleaning" the downloaded data after a few days, so that it never weight so much as an app... Did you ever look into that feature?

Thanks for your efforts! As already mentionned in the comments, Jolla Store compliance would be totally great, it would be very nice to be able to recommand the app to non "power"users", since they could have access to it the simplest way from Jolla Store...

With 0.5 you can now switch on the built-in storage optimizer via settings (for details see https://core.telegram.org/tdlib/docs/classtd_1_1td__api_1_1tdlib_paramet... and https://github.com/tdlib/td/issues/667) We will probably improve storage handling even more in the future.

We've diverged a big, both from an architecture and especially from a UX/UI perspective. As you could see with the animated stickers feature which could be taken over by Yottagram, some things might be shared wherever it makes sense. I'm pretty sure there will also be other opportunities which Fernschreiber can learn from Yottagram. As long as both are maintained, users have choice and that's good. :)

First of all: Thanks for this great app :-)

Probably a very dump question. Can anyone provide a hint how to get new stickers? I only have some funny cherrys but I wasn't able to locate to find new ones (and to find a description on github, here or the sailfish forum).

Thanks in advance for any hint. It feels like the missing information is directly in front of me but I didn't find it.

Really nice, yes we need the check marks and for me stickers work but normal emojis don't. Please add those two functionalities then your app is by far perfect :)

Could you maybe attach a screenshot of the malfunctioning emojis? Moreover, what do you mean with check marks?
