harmattan version please!

TopRanger's picture

Hi,
I'm sorry but I don't know much about Harmattan development and I don't have a device for testing so I can't port the app. However if you (or someone else) want to port the app you can find the source code at https://github.com/Top-Ranger/harbour-kanji

Dude259's picture

Could you perhaps make a similar app to learn Korean/Hangul?

TopRanger's picture

Unfortunately I don't know a lot about Korean/Hangul, so I don't feel like I'm the right person to write such an app.

Would be possible in the future to add different dictionaries for other languages?

I started learning kana with your apps, i would really like to use this app too, but learning Japanese in english and then translating in italian could be a bit confusing sometimes

TopRanger's picture

I can look into that.

Right now I use KANJIDIC2 for the translation part. The problem is that the dictionary has no translation in Italian (only French, Portuguese, Spanish - and these are not complete).

I'll look into other dictionaries, but I can't promise anything.

Hi TopRanger !

I'm french, and I read in your reply that the KANJIDIC2 has a french database.
You said that this DB is not complete, but do you think it will be possible to add it in your application ?
I have to go in Japan in January and it will be really helpful to have this fabulous application, even with a partial support of my mother tongue, during my trip...

Thank you for your great work (Kanji, Katakana and hiragana apps, really helpful !)

KANJIDIC2 has about 2000 French translations. I've made a special version which contains a database with these translation (if no French translation is available it will fall-back to English). French translation have a "(fr)" at the beginning.

You can download the file at my GitHub-page. https://github.com/Top-Ranger/harbour-kanji/releases/tag/v1.6 and there the file "arbour-kanji-1.6-1_fr.armv7hl.rpm".

Since the best anki decks for kanjis are Jap-Eng, i used to edit the deck while learning, so the next time the card is showed it is translated in Italian.

Maybe you can add an option to edit the card?

Nice idea, however this needs a bit of time since I'm not sure how to implement it well (both from an UI as well as from a technical point of view).

One question: Is it enough to havea kind of "comment" field in Kanji/test pages or would it be better to have the translation shown in search results (which would take more time to implement)?

BillyHalley's picture

A comment section wouldn't be bad, so maybe one can also add kanji stories other than translation :)
for the search results it would be better to show the translation, but i think we could live with that :)

TopRanger's picture

Both implemented in Version 1.3

Great!

Ok, thanks a lot :)
