Custom German Neo keyboard layout for Sailfish OS. After installing the package you can enable "Deutsch (Neo 2)" keyboard layout in system settings.

Newest version needs Sailfish OS ≥ 1.1.4.

Tested with Jolla Phone (3.4.0.24), Jolla Tablet (4.6.0.15), Xperia X (4.6.0.15) and SDK Emulator (5.0.0.62) but should also work on most other devices.

The update is usable again! :-)

However, I’d like to ask you to also ask you to consider adding a Presage-based version of this package, since I find XT9 to not work that well. It’s really just:

  1. Shipping a version with different name (ie: keyboard-presage-de_DE-neo2 with files named …/presage-de_DE-neo2.{conf,qml}, following existing presage keyboard package naming convention)
  2. Having the package depend on maliit-plugin-presage and maliit-plugin-presage
  3. Changing the *.conf file to read (note the different handler and languageCode):
    [presage-de_DE-neo2.qml]
    name=Deutsch (Neo 2, Presage)
    languageCode=de_DE
    handler=PresageInputHandler.qml

I’ve tested it with this customized *.conf file and it works, but I hope you can make an official package for this.

Also, I wanted to ask if you can publish the source code for this on, like, Codeberg or somewhere, so that I can try submitting it SailfishOS:Chum?

Thank you for providing this as-is already!

Like 10 years later: I'm still using this layout and I'm very thankful! Is this still supported? With 4.5.0.16 Jolla changed something and the buttons in every corner are not fitting anymore. Is it possible to fix it? Can I help with that?

Sorry, I left the ship in 2020. I'm also using the Noted layout now. But never say never. Let's see what happens in 2026. ;-)

Very nice! I'm no neo-writer yet, nor am I able to blindly type with the legacy layout (wich solely exists because of mechanical anti-entangling typo-levers needs – unbelievably, my daughter still has to learn that at least 50-years obsolete stupidity; see dvorak or coleman, who had already better alternatives back in these days!).

But since typing on the JollaPhone is completely different anyway, it's the best time to start getting in touch with neo2 :-)

Many thanks for making it easier to get in touch!
