Phonehook is a multi-purpose Sailfish application to enhance phone functionality.

 

Caller Lookup

Information will appear in an overlay on top of the incoming call screen. This information is extracted directly from different online phone number directories.

Call Blocking

You can block unwanted callers by adding them to the block list. You can either pick a contact from your phone or add a number manually. Support for wildcards means you can block calls from a certain country or region. You can also add a source for automatic call blocking. All numbers flagged as spam by this source will be blocked. Since this feature could potentially end up blocking calls you actually want, use with caution! Check your blocked calls history now and then, and if you notice some source blocking calls it shouldn't, please report the issue on gituhub.

Directory Search

With the search functionality, you can search for people or businesses and call them directly from the app. You can also bring up the maps application for the listed address or save the result to your contacts. Some sources requires you to log in before this will give results.

About Sailfish OS Updates

Sailfish OS upgrades recommends uninstalling phonehook before upgrading. If you are running a somewhat recent version of phonehook (0.4.0 and later), this recommendation is no longer relevant. Newer versions of phonehook do not interfer with OS upgrades. Version 0.3.x and earlier modifies the Sailfish homescreen, which may cause issues in some scenarios. 0.4.0+ does not modify the homescreen.

In Sailfish 1.1.9.28 when you search something you can see half of the main page in the background. There might be some other places that this happen. Like when you add new service if I remember correctly.

Yes it does happen every time. I have only used Fonecta so I don't know how it behaves in other services.

Edit: If I press search it works ok but if I swipe then this happens.

Yeah now I see it, I usually always press Search when I do searches, which is why it never happens for me.

I wonder if I'm doing something wrong in the app or if it's a Sailfish issue with swiping dialog windows. I'll do some research when I get the time.

Hi! I have added paginebianche.it as a data source now, so you can check that one out.

Generally the advice is to use the global directories if no specific ones are available to your country, and since laws and such differ between countries, that may sometimes be the only choice.

hey man! thanks for great app!

please, consider adding following functionality: ability to set "busy/auto-reply" mode. In that mode when you receive phone calls from any number (except for some kind off white list), phone automatically sends sms with chosen body (i.e "i' busy, will call you back")

Hi! 

I had a look at that site, but I can't find a way to do lookups for numbers, only search for names. The name search also requires that you specify the region you want to search in. If you find a site where you can enter numbers and get names, let me know and I can try to work with it.

This site (http://blancas.paginasamarillas.es/) is only for searching numbers. I use truecaller, but there are some sites for reverse caller lookup in Spain:

I've tried adding the two new sites you listed, they should be visible in the app now. The site paginasamarillas.es requires some changes to the app (dropdown select of regions) before I can make a search function for it.

Hello and thanks for the app first.

I have a problem with the newest Version 0.5.0

I uninstalled the old 0.4.x and deleted the phonehook Folder.

When i start the phonehook, anything looks fine, until i try to add a source.

The Program try to add it, then the fialog pop up: Phonehook not responding -> Wait or Close the program.

When i just wait and do nothing, after a couple of seconds, the phonehook app closes. After i start it again, the source is not added.

Do you have an idea, what i can do?

My bad, there was an error in the DB update script. Try deleting the phonehook folder and installing the new 0.5.0-2 version.

Fonecta service is very unreliable. About 99% of the time it does not succeed on getting any numbers. Even using "search" inside phonebook app.

 

Anything you could do about it?

Hi! Tested it a bit and it seems to work for me. Are you on latest version? (0.4.1)

If you're having trouble, verify that you can manually surf to fonecta through your phone and get search results. Fonecta may be having server issues or your internet connection might be bad.

Also make sure that your login details are correctly entered.

im on latest version of phonebook and fonecta service. i can surf with browser and i do get results after login.

when using phonebook, i dont get calling number 99% of time, sometimes it works. then if i use search for name i get 1 to 10+ results but most are just "hidden name" even when i know they are not hidden. when searching my own number i get "hidden name" even though its not hidden and i can find it using fonecta websearch or fonecta caller.

I had the exactly same problem: almost all searches from phonehook ended up with hidden name, and with "test number" option in fonecta rev settings the result was "no results" if i remeber correctly.

Solution: after trying about everything else I signed in with my laptop to fonecta.fi service, and while signing in the website gave me a note that signing in with phone number is outdated and that i should sign in with a verified email address, well i had already a verified email address so i changed to that and did the same on phonehook and after that everything has worked as they should.

I dont know if you have the same issue but just wanted to share this because years ago it was completely legit to sign in with phonenumber, actually i think it used to be the only option.

It sound as if there is some problem with the login. Fonecta gives very limited results for non logged in users, I think you can only see businesses and not people, also numbers should not be hidden when the logged in.

Usually I try to detect the login status and show an error if it fails, but maybe there is something special with your account? If you want me to investigate more, you can PM me the login details you are using.

App won't work!

Both in 1.4 and 1.6.

When someone calls, the window opens but always finds nothing.

Tried checking "When Roaming" and unchecking "Only for unknown contacts".

Nothing!

One of my favourite apps won't work. Please help me.

I use greek source "11888".

app version latest 0.4.

no greek number is showing.

usually numbers are 003069xxxxxxxx

site itself works.

tried some numbers from call log and searched again from "lookup".

some (2) unknown contact nubers were found but when they did ring (actual call), names didn't show up as they should.

still, just only unknown numbers and only just a couple of them.

previous versions worked like a charm, just fine and faster.

how do I get log file?
