TAO Translator for SailfishOS

TAO Translator uses available online translation services to provide translations.

Currently supported services:

  • Google Translate - supports translation, transliteration for most non-latin scripts, language detection, and dictionary with reverse translations for single words.
  • Microsoft Translator (a.k.a. Bing Translator) - supports translation and language detection.
  • Yandex.Translate - supports translation and language detection.
  • Yandex.Dictionaries - supports dictionary with transcription for some languages, synonyms, and reverse translations.

More services might be added in future.

If you want to report a bug, request a new feature or just make a suggestion, please, create a new issue in TAO Translator project on GitHub: https://github.com/leppa/taot/issues.

Unfortunately TAO Translator doesn't start by clicking the menu item after updating SFOS to 3.4.0.22. From command line harbour-taot command works, but complains about libQT5SystemInfo.so.5.

Hi!

I just checked analytics and I don't see this message popping up that often (it was reported only 34 times over the last 30 days).

Do you always get this error?

Can you post source and target languages, and text you're trying to translate?
Or send this info to my e-mail (Settings -> Send Feedback in the pulley menu).

Suggestion (seen on a N9 app): I'd like to see that once a language is selected for translation, it goes to the top of list of the languages, so that if the user cycles through e.g. 4-5 languages, they end up all together at the top of the list, and there is no need to scroll through the whole list to pick them up.

Hi and thanks for your suggestion. This is actually planned: https://github.com/leppa/taot/issues/42. But I can't give oyu any estimation on when it will be done, unfortunately.

I might have misunderstood you, but N9 app doesn't have this feature either. My policy is to push the same featureset for all platforms (whenever it's possible).

Why TAO is not updated on the jolla store, I always have notification about update, but jolla store have old version and I can't update. I have this notification for the last few days and can't remove it.
From the openrepos updated without any problem.
Big thanks for the greate app.

There seems to be an issue with the Harbour or Jolla Store. The possible cause of it is described here: https://github.com/leppa/taot/issues/26. Unfortunately, Jolla's developer support is useless: I wrote two letters to them but didn't receive any reply.

I submitted version 1.0.0 to the Store on Sunday (02.03) and hope that the issue will be resolved when it passes QA.

Sure. There is a vector source available, in case you need to adapt it: https://github.com/leppa/taot/tree/stable/src/icon.

Curently it's released under GPL, but I might re-license it under CC-BY-SA or some other license that is more appropriate for images in future.

Hello, i noticed a small glitch in the app. When using the inverted theme mode, the 'Translate' and 'Clear' buttons are not visible anymore as they are black, same as the background.

(N9, 0.3.1 just installed from Warehouse).

Voice input? Sailfish OS or Nokia N9? Technically, it's possible, but I never worked with it before. It also depends, whether platform provides voice recognition API or libraries. BlackBerry 10, for example, has built in support for voice input, so it's available in all applications out of the box.

Anyway, feel free to go to https://github.com/leppa/taot/issues and create a new feature request.
