This app has been developed using Claude Code! Reverse engineering of the Suunto whiteboard-protocal, analyzing BT HCI logs, and mitmproxy-logs from the official apps were done 100% by Claude. Also most of the code is written by Claude.

SuuntoSync allows you to connect your Suunto-watch (tested with 9 Baro and Race) to a SailfishOS-phone (tested with JP2026), load activities, sleep-data and daily activity from the phone, and upload them to Suunto-cloud (sports-tracker).

Application can also load the activities fromt the cloud to phone.

SuuntoPlus-apps/watch faces can also be added and removed from the phone.

There's a separate daemon, that handles notifications to the phone. Currently notification-daemon only works when the app is closed.

Changelog:

Suunto Sync 1.5.0

  • Weather. One tap tells the watch to refresh its forecast. The forecast never crosses the Bluetooth link — the watch downloads it itself over WiFi, which is why this needed the piece below.
  • Offline maps. Browse every region Suunto offers, search it, and add regions to your map library. The watch then asks you to accept the download on its own screen and fetches the tiles over WiFi. The app shows each region’s size and whether the watch has it.
  • The watch’s cloud credential. The app now obtains the watch’s own key from the Suunto cloud and writes it to the watch, which is what lets the watch fetch anything by itself. This was the missing piece for both features above.
  • WiFi settings. The network name and passphrase are stored on the phone (the passphrase in the Sailfish Secrets vault) and handed to the watch, and the watch’s WiFi can be switched on from the app. Saving a network into the watch’s own memory slots is not implemented yet; a network added from the official Suunto app or typed on the watch works.
  • SuuntoPlus: leftovers can be removed. Apps installed by hand — and entries the watch still showed after their files were deleted, as rows with a button and no name — are now listed and removable.
  • Notifications. Notifications now work also when the app is open. The app only reserves the bt-connection when it's talking to the watch, and releases it to for the notification-daemon when it finishes. Notifications are queued, and sent when the daemon can connect the watch again.
