Zoo

Zoo is a small, strange, living zoo for the little things you do.

What is it? A habit tracker that refused to look like one. You do one small thing a day, keep a couple of habits, run the odd focus session. In return, an animated cabinet fills up with pixel creatures that roam, blink, and judge you quietly. The useful part is the fuel. The zoo is the fire. That is genuinely all you need to know; the rest is more fun to find than to be told.

There is no shaming here. No streak-guilt, no red numbers, no timers built to spike your anxiety. Miss a day and you get a shrug, never a scold. Entirely offline and private: no accounts, no network, no trackers, no ads, and no in-app purchases, ever. Nothing leaves your device, because the app never once asks the internet for anything.

A few things it would rather show you than list:

  • it keeps your habits, focus, and one small daily thing, and pays you in crumbs
  • it turns crumbs into creatures, and creatures into a small living world you tend
  • and if you keep turning up, it tells you a quiet story you will not see coming (well, I hope so)

There are also consequences (mild ones), ceremonies, secrets, and an unreasonable amount of confetti. You will meet them when you meet them.

About this project

Written by a human with an LLM (Claude). The engine is event-sourced and deterministic, and the app contains no network code whatsoever.

Privacy and data

  • Everything is stored locally (a SQLite log and a small preferences file), on your device only. Nothing is ever uploaded; the app makes no network requests at runtime
  • No accounts, no trackers, no analytics, no ads, no in-app purchases
  • No intrusive permissions: Zoo does not read your photos, contacts, or location
  • One-tap "Erase all data" (in Settings, with a confirmation) wipes everything and starts you over

Feedback

This is an early version. If it does not work for you, or you dislike something, I am genuinely open to constructive criticism. Issues and ideas: https://github.com/nicosouv/harbour-zoo/issues

Changelog:

v0.5.3 (initial release)

  • Track habits (good ones to grow, bad ones to gently starve), a small daily challenge, a focus timer, and one-off quests.
  • Earn crumbs and hatch procedural pixel creatures that roam an animated, themeable enclosure you can decorate.
  • An optional emotional check-in and gentle, never-shaming nudges. No streak-guilt, no red numbers.
  • Keeper progression: levels, titles, badges, and weekly and monthly stats.
  • Fully offline and private: no network, no accounts, no trackers. Six languages. An optional daily reminder, off by default.
  • Plus a handful of surprises best left undiscovered here.
