A simple mimetype editor to set the most important default apps.
Currently these are:
Thanks to the work of Coderus now also Android Applications can be set as default. (You need Aliendalvik Control for this)
Also notice that since version 1.1.9.28 application set as default won't open specified files if the default app associated with it is already open. It will just switch to the already open default app.
To manually edit the mimeapps.list file from mimer you need to have tiny-edit installed.
If something goes wrong resetting everything should get rid of all modifications.

Since updating to SFOS 4, mimer doesn't seems to be able to pass browser URLs to android browsers. Anybody have the same issue, or is it just me?

Same here. There were some random bugs in the previous version too, only about 50% requests passed the URL.

You need an app that implements support for xls mimetypes. See: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/974079/setting-mime-type-for-excel-d...

On 3.1 I keep getting asked which app to open the link with. Mimer can't seem to store this setting.

Yeah Jolla seems to work on mimetype handling and such this method of mimer does not seem to work anymore.

I was able to change the default browser to Android Firefox focus without a problem. Thanks for the app!
EDIT: OK, I have one issue. I'm wasn't able to set back the default. After some playing with the app I was able to make that work but it wasn't really easy.

This doesn't seem to work for me - Jolla C 3.0.1.11. It worked before - in 3.0.0.8 I think - but I had to factory-reset so I reinstalled it.
My only requirement is to get links in SFOS apps (email, tidings) to open in Firefox.
Edited to add... As it didn't work for Firefox, I uninstalled it. I then found that links would not open in the SFOS browser. I think I had selected 'Set everything to defaults' before uninstallation, but I'm not certain. So I reinstalled it and used it to set the SFOS browser to open links. (In case others hit this problem.)

Hi, I use Puffin browser (Puffin pro). When I set my default browser to Puffin in the past it worked usually. Now when I tap on a link and the app is closed it only opens the Puffin application as I would open it normally but doesn't open the link... Same happens if the app is open, it just switch to the active app.
Could you fix this please?

New tabs with webcat.
Using latest mimer version 0.1.6.1 on Sailfish OS 2.2.1, with mimer setting the default browser to webcat, should now webcat able to open new tabs?
I tried to apply the 'tricks' mentioned in a previous comment from 2015, but it didn't work for me. I'm not sure if I did not follow the instructions properly or the trick doesn't work anymore on SFOS 2.2.

Nope. If Webcat is already running it won't open new tabs.
I am trying to make that available easily via mimer though I have to find ways around to make it compatible with the Jolla Store (harbour). Actually mimer should be already ready doing that. It just needs an update to Webcat.
In short you need to grab the *open-url*.desktop file from /usr/share/harbour-webcat/ and copy it to /usr/share/applications or ~/.local/share/applications and set "Open with Webcat" as default browser. Like said in the future this might change at least. It is working already here though I cannot share this within harbour and I don't want to maintain two different versions of the browser one for harbour and one for openrepos.

Can you add facebook? So that facebook-notifications will be opened in the new facebookapp from Fidoraptor?

I don't see any specific facebook mimetype. I guess the facebook notifications are build that way that they only open the link in the default browser.
So there is currently no way without hacking the eventsview itself.

Does not work for me (SFOS 2.0.0.10): Settings are not saved, neither in the GUI (simply closing Mimer after changing default apps) nor when selecting "Manual Edit" and hitting "Save" in TinyEdit.
Help is much appreciated

Is it really not working or is it just this limitation that it does not show the association after restart of mimer like discussed by objectifnu ?

Ah, retested with LLs vPlayer as Video Player: Works!
Sorry for the incorrect bug report.
And obviously setting the default browser to WebPirate or Webcat needs some manual tweaking, as you pointed out and linked to.
Thanks
