A simple mimetype editor to set the most important default apps.

Currently these are:

  • Browser
  • Image Viewer
  • Music Player
  • Video Player
  • Text Editor

Thanks to the work of Coderus now also Android Applications can be set as default. (You need Aliendalvik Control for this)

Also notice that since version application set as default won't open specified files if the default app associated with it is already open. It will just switch to the already open default app.

To manually edit the mimeapps.list file from mimer you need to have tiny-edit installed.

If something goes wrong resetting everything should get rid of all modifications.

Application versions:
harbour-mimer-0.1-1.armv7hl.rpm50.54 KB03/10/2015 - 16:04
harbour-mimer-0.1-2.armv7hl.rpm50.63 KB05/10/2015 - 13:11
harbour-mimer-0.1-3.armv7hl.rpm48.72 KB10/01/2016 - 15:46
harbour-mimer-0.1-4.i486.rpm53.48 KB11/01/2016 - 15:13
harbour-mimer-0.1-4.armv7hl.rpm48.68 KB11/01/2016 - 15:13
  • Don't filter out Android Apps as Aliendalvik Control can now make them open correctly

I reverted from 0.1-4 to 0.1-3, as the latest release has no effect on text files (the only association I'm using)

Thanks for the update man, keep it up

Can you add facebook? So that facebook-notifications will be opened in the new facebookapp from Fidoraptor?

llelectronics's picture

I don't see any specific facebook mimetype. I guess the facebook notifications are build that way that they only open the link in the default browser.
So there is currently no way without hacking the eventsview itself.

Does not work for me (SFOS Settings are not saved, neither in the GUI (simply closing Mimer after changing default apps) nor when selecting "Manual Edit" and hitting "Save" in TinyEdit.
Help is much appreciated

llelectronics's picture

Is it really not working or is it just this limitation that it does not show the association after restart of mimer like discussed by objectifnu ?

Ah, retested with LLs vPlayer as Video Player: Works!
Sorry for the incorrect bug report.

And obviously setting the default browser to WebPirate or Webcat needs some manual tweaking, as you pointed out and linked to.

hi,,,thanks for the awesome app..is it possible to add it to the system settings menu..like an option...e.g the way we we have patch options like events view etc,,

I will take a look into it. Though I hesitate to integrate it yet as I still want to make this app appear in harbour aswell were this isn't allowed for now.

For webbrowsing there is some tricks to make it work with dbus services files.

Here's an idea for a more graphical approach for the Mimer icon...

Just a suggestion, as always. :-)

llelectronics's picture

A nice icon but somehow I don't see it fitting to the app itself.

The symbol on it looks like a weblink logo.

For some reason, customized preferences are displayed correctly just after I've set them, but when I re-open Mimer it displays default associations again.

llelectronics's picture

This is a limitation at the moment.
I did not go to the length of implementing that yet.

This is good! Been waiting for this. Only thing that is bad is that your browser (Webcat) does not open urls, have to use web pirate for it.

llelectronics's picture

Upps you are right. There seems to be a '%U' missing in the harbour-webcat.desktop file.
I will fix that with the next update.

objectifnul's picture

Maybe Mimer editor could comply with the association rule set for text/plain (in my case, "finpad.desktop" instead of TinyEdit) in mimeapps.list?

llelectronics's picture

Yeah makes sense.

I think I will add a text editor config button aswell so that you can configure the editor aswell.
The current default text editor is sailfish-notes which opens up the file fine but somehow is useless as it cannot save to that file directly.
Thats one of the reasons I did not include that yet.
I also thought that tinyedit is the only native texteditor out there (with a gui).

objectifnul's picture

The default text editor in my initial configuration (SFOS was "Documents", completely useless (doesn't open text files). I replaced it with "text/plain=finpad.desktop" in mimeapps.list.

FinPad is an improved fork of TinyEdit. See https://github.com/drcouzelis/finpad

Just perfect - changed default Browser to WebPirate and Music Player to FlowPlayer and worked perfectly !

Congrats ! Great work !!
