A map viewer for Jolla Sailfish OS.

It is intended to be light-weight and fast. It is used to browse tiled maps from different sources including Open Street Map, Google Maps or Virtual Earth. In addition, GPS information are added on the map.

It has also capabilities to record and display GPS tracks in XML GPX format. Information from wikipedia on locations can be displayed. There is a search entry for Open Street Map location database.

Tiles are cached on disk and can be displayed off-line.

- Declare the OpenCycleMap to www.thunderforest.com to obtain an API key.
- Correct the long-lasting bug of map jumping position when drag is released.

Thank you! It works much better than "Here". I used to think "Here" on my old Nokia was the best map app, but on Jolla 3 out of 4 times it puts me several streets away while your app finds my location correctly and fast.

Today(18.01) and hitherto - I can not boot map "OpenStreetMap I". Other Maps are loaded properly.

Ok, issue corrected in version 1.3.7-9 and hopefully won't reappear again, see the TMO discussion for details. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you very much! A great program!

It's a great app! Now we have an option for the crappy (for cars only) Here maps.

I'm afraid you'll soon be overloaded with feature requests but still I can't resist makeing one myself: would it be possible to add more tile sources? I have these particular sites in mind: opensnowmap.org & latukartta.fi

Oh, and do you have the source code available somewhere?

EDIT: Found the GitHub repository: https://github.com/dcaliste/maep-qt

It would be a nice feature to be able to download the tiles directly from this app!

I think about it (in fact osm-gps-map object that Mæp is based on has already a download method to put in cache a map area), but I don't have any clear idea how to select in the user interface the download area (and especially the number of associated zoom levels).

Maybe just a simple "download" pulley menu action that takes the current view and download 2 or 3 levels of zoom under.

I want to make backup this mep. Where (in which folder) it is stored?

dcaliste's picture

The map tiles are stored in $XDG_DATA_DIR/maep which expands usually to ~/.local/share/maep

The cache is never cleared by the application itself, so the already downloaded tiles are always available even without network access. Like that, yiou can cache in advance the tiles of a trip you plan to do and use tham later.

Thank you very much!
