MP3 tag editor

Your rating: None Average: 4.4 (8 votes)

Simple editor of id tags in mp3 (for those who don't know: ID3 tags are those little things that tell music players what artist or album is and a lot more).

It's a beta version, so it's possible it would not work always (though it worked for me every time).

Has also search field which is useful when you have large collection of music.

Plans for future versions:

  • increase speed when searching
  • make more user friendly path exclusions
  • ability to download album cover based on song name, album and title

Sfos 4.4 broke it.

Development is over? I could donate for app developer if he still using time for this project.. There is so much to do still ;P 247 suggestions would be indeed very welcome.

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

It pretty much is, I don't use Jolla anymore. But if you donate something, I could update this a bit.

Any plans to improve this app?would be nice to have the abilitt to edit albums (and not only songs) and the ability to search songs by path and not only by list...oh and adding of cover art obviously :)

Aslanex's picture

The download from warehouse somehow does not work, maybe the files are corrupted?

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

Working for me without a problem. Do you use original Jolla phone?

objectifnul's picture

This app seems to use a character encoding that is not consistent with the operating system (which uses utf-8 AFAIK). So, accented characters (é è à â etc.) aren't rendered correctly in tags.

Upp15's picture

How about adding some sort of file browser, to just find the file you want to edit, instead of automatically listing all (thousands) of files? Then the app would consume so much system resources !?

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

I plan it, but I don't know how to make filebrowser yet, so it would take some time.

objectifnul's picture

Observations so far (version 0.4-1):

1. Search function shows twice each found file.

2. For some mp3 files, the "Album" field displays "UserTextFrame: [Description: replaygain_album_gain]" instead of the actual album title (which is correctly read by MediaInfo app). Mp3TagEditor could not edit this field.

3. When Aliendalvik is running, Mp3TagEditor sometimes fails to open (insufficient RAM probably).

Can you send me example of such file? The error with duplicity... Are the duplicate files in the same folder? It should show you the path when you click the song

Audio file =>

(*) Yes, "both" files (actually only one exists) are in the same path. Duplication might be due to the fact that my audio library (on SD card) is also made accessible through a symlink in /home/memo.

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

Thanks. The path is same for both the files?

objectifnul's picture

Yes, same path (see above).

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

It's very strange... Don't you have some symlinks or bind mounts to the folder?

By the way, it should now read the tags correctly.

objectifnul's picture

Album tag issue fixed indeed in version 0.4-2, thanks. Regarding duplicates, it should be possible to ignore symlinks, as I don't see duplicates in Jolla Media Player.

EDIT1 - After having removed the symlink in /home/nemo, the duplication issue is still present.

EDIT2 - Same if I ban the path /home/nemo/

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

It's not perfect, that's why I made the option to ignore path, so if you find where you have the duplicated folder, you can disable it, before I will fix it.

velox's picture

Thanks for this! I've added a german translation.
The app starts but almost directly shows the "unresponsive" notification and exits at some point, so I haven't been able to really try anything.

Edit: Tag editor + find seem to make quite an impressive cpu load and the device starts to swap memory until it gets killed. Perhaps I got above average amounts of files on my device.

objectifnul's picture

My audio library contains > 1,300 files (mainly ogg-vorbis). I have the unresponsive notification too (briefly), then the app is OK. I never use Aliendalvik.

I would suggest Mp3TagEditor allows more convenient path filtering (include/exclude).

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

You can try the speed now, it should be much quicker :)

velox's picture

App worked after update and a phone reboot, thanks!

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

I know it's not ideal about memory/cpu and I was afraid something like this will happen with large music collections. I will try to fix it as soon as possible.

Upp15's picture

I would think option for include path(s) would be more practical? I have all my music under one folder on SD card.

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

In future versions I want to make some better system for paths in which it will have includes and excludes working together.

Ingvix's picture

If possible, it would be nice to have songs also sorted by their album art and editing multiple songs at the same time making the same changes for bunch of songs.

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

Glad you like it :)

Will you please report if you get any error with ogg?

alina's picture

You removed the initial version just when I was downloading it. :))

Edit: Is it possible to add support for unicode characters?

Rikudou_Sennin's picture

Sorry :D

I will look to it and let you know :)

Edit: I checked and it supports unicode characters (at least those I tried). Isn't it problem with the music player? Can you send me some title, that you had problems with?

alina's picture

Ok, I tried some characters and found that Latin supplement characters such as â, á, ó, are supported, but extended ones like ŝ, ĵ, aren't. If I use such characters in the tags the information won't be updated in the app after saving.
