DynCal dynamic calendar icon

Your rating: None Average: 5 (24 votes)

Your calendar icon will show you the current day of the month. Works on Sailfish OS 2.0.2+.

You can simply customize the icons (to change icon pack or add your own holidays) by following these steps.

Read before installing

  • Systemd timers are not triggered when Jolla is in deep sleep, so if you take your device after a long inactivity period it may take a while before the calendar is updated (usually a couple of seconds). It's not really my fault, I tried to do the best I could considering my knowledge and current Sailfish OS behaviour, If anybody knows a better implementation, don't hesitate to contact me.

It's the 17th, and my calendar shows 3. Let's try to reinstall!Aaaand... Yes, that worked.

Is there a leap year related bug? Today is 2 March but the icon shows "1".otherwise works really well.

darbess's picture

Please ignore my previous comment. It seems the missing file has now been restored in place by Jolla. Thank you anyway...

First of all, a big thank you for all your work from a fellow Italian.
Before updating my Xperia X to I removed this app to ensure a clean update (maybe not needed, but I prefer to be sure). The update was successful, but now dyncal does not install any more. It says: File './non-oss/noarch/sailfish-tutorial-data-0.2.3-1.8.1.jolla.noarch.rpm' not found on medium 'https://releases.jolla.com/releases/'.

Yet another Easter egg. Great!

Great app. It's not often that I can impress people with my phone. The Halloween cover made my kids envious!

fravaccaro's picture

Thank you, I'm glad you liked my little trick (or should I say treat?) :)

Today (01/01/2018) the day number isn't displayed, instead 2017 is displayed with 20 on one line and 17 on the line below.

Hello Fravaccaro, DynCal and DynClock are much appreciated, yet I have some difficulties with these. I am not sure if it is due to the latest Sailfish updates, but since a few months the Calendar icon starts moving to below all the other apps on my Jolla. It happens at night. Removing and re-installing does not help. It's not even possible to remove it.

I hope that this does not happen with my new Xperia and soon with Sailfish on it!

With DynClock I also experience something weird: the icon has disappeared, it's a black spot now with the word 'Clock' only. When I tap on it, the Clock functions normally. It is impossible to delete the Clock app. It simply does not go away.

It seems you need to rename the calendar icons 1.png, 2.png, ... 9.png in /usr/share/harbour-dyncal/icons to 01.png etc. Or you wait to the 10th of the month ;-) Or you wait for an update of the app. But I don't know more about this fault and fravaccaro needs to take a look into this.

Fixed, sorry for the inconvenience :) I redone the pictures but - as you noticed - I mistakenly omitted a 0.

Yep. Mine's all busted too.
Reset my jolla a few times to no avail.

No icon on the Fairphone 2 and Jolla Tablet since 01.10.2016

Yesterday it worked, today - a black icon.

Same issue on Intex Aqua Fish.

I have a previous version installed, yet warehouse doesn't recognize it as installed anymore. Now I refreshed your repo and tried to install the latest version getting a dep-resolution-failed error

hebrew-icon-calendar-0.1-3.armv7hl obsoletes harbour-dyncal provided by harbour-dyncal-0.4.1-1.noarch

I never installed any hebrew-calender stuff. What?

fravaccaro's picture

Israeli holidays includes the obsolete function in the spec, so if you have Schturman's repo enabled, a system upgrade may have automatically uninstalled my DynCal and installed his.

Maciek's picture

Have you thought about changing icon shape to square? This way day number would always fit and holiday icons would look way better.

fravaccaro's picture

Well, the aim is to keep the icon look and shape as close as possible to the stock one.

I'm not closed to your idea, though :)

gri4994's picture

Surprised to see Halloween icon :)

fravaccaro's picture

I stored 13 holidays icons in the script...wait and see :)

zenecho's picture

Seems to work fine.

When patch removed it also removed the claendar icon. rebooted calendar icon back, but Launch combine patch no longer working, needed to be re-installed/activate combine launcgh patch .Reboot again, all ok

fravaccaro's picture

I uploaded a new version which should fix the issue (in case of any trouble in the future, usually a home screen refresh is enough) - I tried on my phone running the launcher combined patch and everything seems to work fine.

This isn't update the date, only when I restart HS or phone. What's wrong? I tested on .

fravaccaro's picture

Hi,  it looks like Sailfish OS doesn't trigger the daemon while the device is in deep-sleep state, while it's triggered during normal usage and pre-sleep state. I'm looking for an alternative solution, sorry for the inconvenience.

If anybody can help, I'm uploading the source on github.com, just look for my nickname on there.

[EDIT] Fixed, hope it works for you (at least it does during my testing).

Oh, that makes me feel nostalgic :D

Thank you for dynamic calendar icon.
I've installed yesterday and it's displayed 22, but today (23) it still displays 22.
How can I solve this problem?

fravaccaro's picture

Have you tried  to restart the homescreen?

carmenluci's picture

I've restarted homescreen and now it's working.

Doesn't it update automatically?
