An idea originally created by s_mario (https://together.jolla.com/question/130703/patch-email-client/).

This patch removes the horrible bright white background from plain/html emails including a slight increase in text size for better readability. Thanks to coderus also for suggestions regarding unnecessary code within the patch.

Enjoy!

I was just adding details and tryng to troubleshoot the text scrambling issue, no pressure!

I just tested and the issue happens as well without QtWebit 5.212, so I guess it's related to the Jolla C instead.

I agree with the earlier comment that it would be nice to disable the temporary white background that shows up during loading, it is particularly aggressive when checking emails during the night. :]

The whole idea of the patch is to eliminate the white background, which I thought we had achieved, especially as I do not see it at all on Jolla1. I still have a few things to try, but at the moment I have my hands full creating a new bathroom. I'll do what I can, but progress on the patch will be slow for a while.
s_mario has made a few suggestions, when I get 5 minutes, I will shoe horn them in, but for now, I'm way too busy.

I have also Xperia X and must say - its fine. Better than the old white.

Thanks for the feedback, good to know :)

Same as Idnovic here, using QtWebkit 5.212 too, in case it is related. My phone is a Jolla C.

@Markkyboy
Maybe you need one more "experimental.transparentBackground: true" in the HtmlLoader.qml because it's now not more global in the SilicaWebView.qml activated?

Markkyboy's picture

Okay, I'll check it out at some point. I'm currently installing a new bathroom which is now taking up most of my day to get it done.

Works on my Xperia. Thanks a lot

And please add the transparent loading. It is mentioned in the thread you linked. From white to transparent does not look good

Markkyboy's picture

I don't see this particular problem on my device. Do you mean that you get a flash of white before it goes transparent?

idnovic's picture

Yes, you can call it flash of white. I know you can change that by changing the loading animation from white to transparent. Because I was the one suggesting it in the thread. The author did add information on how to change it in their post.

Markkyboy's picture

Be more specific with your request please, which file should this change be in?, as far as I am aware, changes regarding from white to transparent have been made. As already stated, I'm not seeing this problem.

idnovic's picture

I was talking about the HtmlLoader.qml file. Are you using patchmanager 3 beta too?

idnovic's picture

I think it is because I use webkit beta from openrepos, can you make the text increase optional?

Markkyboy's picture

probably not, I don't know how to do that, yet.

Your link is screwed, it just brings me back to this page.

monkeyisland's picture

I had the same problem on Jolla 1

idnovic's picture

You had? How did you fix it?

monkeyisland's picture

Sorry for my bad english.
I don't fix it i have the problem
still.

Markkyboy's picture

Oh dear, yeah, that is a frickin mess!...hmmmm. The problem for me is how to reproduce these problems in order for me to troubleshoot them. I'll try my best.

idnovic's picture

I use webkit beta from openrepos. Maybe that is the problem. I want to take a look at the source code. Can you link me to it?

idnovic's picture

Well idk, I can upload the image to an different hoster later. The text gets scrambled on top of itself in a few quarters overlaying each other. I think just transparent without text changes could work for me. I did have the email app manually patched before the reflash of the phone for the newest update. I only used the transparent parts. Noo text or css changes. I applied your patch on the vanilla email app with patchmanager 3.

On my Xperia everything looks as it should. Only the tjc-notification mails are a bit ugly now, because there aren't red and green markings anymore to see on first look what changed.
Except from that, great patch, thank you! :D

Markkyboy's picture

Thanks for the feedback.
Hopefully, over time, we can iron out problems for different devices. For now, I only have a Jolla1. I think the original author of the code has an Xperia, no doubt I will get feedback from him too.

idnovic's picture

Buggy, scrambles text on xperia x. Loading animation is white instead of transparent.

Markkyboy's picture

sorry to hear that, I don't have xperiax so I cannot help diagnose that particular problem.
